A sign explains beach warning flags: double red for water closed, red for high hazard, yellow for medium hazard, green for low hazard, purple for dangerous marine life.

What Do The Flags Mean?

Summer is here.  If you go to the beach, and you’re near a lifeguard stand, there’s a good chance you will see a flag (or two) flying when a lifeguard is on duty.  The colors of the flags are an indication of the current beach conditions, so it’s important to know what each one means.  Always swim near a lifeguard, and if you can’t swim near a lifeguard, be mindful of conditions, your skill level as a swimmer and always swim with a buddy.  A fun day at the beach is a safe day at the beach!
